Application Follow Up Calls: The Essential Ingredient in Every Job Search
One of the most important aspects of any job application is the follow up call after you've submitted your application. Remember to always use the telephone - email is much less effective for follow ups. Following up is important, so you don't want to miss the chance. Not everyone will be doing it, so when you do, you're more likely to get the hiring manager or agent's attention and there's a better chance they'll look for your application in the pile. The follow up is also your opportunity to impress, to put a person and voice to the CV or application that the hiring manager can relate to. One the most important aspects of the follow up is timing; making sure you call at the right time. Plan your follow up call in advance, a few days after your application will have arrived. If you've posted the application instead of email, leave a few extra days for it to arrive. Don't be a pain though. Too many calls or attempts to speak with a hiring manager or agent could easily have a negative effect. Not every manager will want to speak with you and if this is the case, you need to take it on the chin and accept that particular application can't be followed up. Put your energy into other opportunities. We'll look at some essential advice for follow up calls in some of our future articles, so keep visiting TheJobWorx.
